The mission.
Alex Encel started this business in the humble surrounds of his girlfriend's flat. She was an opera singer, you see, and wanted a way to hear her performances. So he built. Amplifiers, speakers, stereo cartridges. In fact, Alex was the first in Australia to demonstrate and sell stereo technology.
Things got busy as friends and acquaintances cottoned on, asking him to develop installations for them. Soon after, he opened his first shop in Richmond, selling everything from whitegoods to shavers to his own brand of speakers.
Today, 50 years on, Alex is still involved in day-to-day operations. Times have changed and the business has evolved, but the same thing that drove him to build for his girlfriend in 1954 is the same philosophy that drives him today: quality and passion. It's that simple.
